Solve the following word problems using the specified strategy. Use the number pieces to help. Upload a picture of each problem after completion.

Question 1: Use the adding up strategy to solve the following word problem. Kira and Sally were playing the game Cover Up with 952 counters. Kira hid some of the counters. She left 429 counters showing. How many counters did Kira hide?

Question 2: Use the subtracting back using a number line strategy to solve the following word problem. Tony bought a baseball glove for $63. He gave the cashier $100. How much money would he have left after he bought the glove?

Question 3: Use the decomposing by place value strategy to solve the following word problem. Carla had a collection of 821 paper clips. She used 287 paper clips in a science project. How many paper clips are still in Carla’s collection?

Question 4: Your turn. Think about a time when you have had to use subtraction in real life. Write a subtraction word problem based on that time and solve using one of the 3 strategies (adding up, subtracting back using a number line, decomposing by place value). Be sure to have the word problem written on the paper that you upload.
